Albion are confident they hit their targets in the summer transfer window – after deadline passed quietly at the Amex.

Chris O’Grady’s move on loan to Nottingham Forest for the rest of the season was the most significant action involving the Seagulls on the last day of summer trading.

Chief executive Paul Barber revealed the Seagulls looked at late signings.

But he is happy they made the right decisions throughout the window as they worked with boss Chris Hughton to rebuild their squad.

Barber said: “There were a couple of things that would have been nice on the final day had everything been right.

“In the end they did not happen but they were not priority things.

“We were quite relaxed on the final day.

“I think from speaking to Chris he is quite happy with what he has got in terms of depth, balance and quality.

“We have done what we set out to do, which is give ourselves a competitive squad for the season ahead.

“But I think everyone here has their feet on the ground. We have the manager, coaches and staff to know it is a long season ahead.”

Nottingham-born O’Grady returns home in a bid to kick-start a Championship career which faltered after moving south from Barnsley little more than a year ago.

Forest could only sign free agents and loan players during the window.

They needed to boost attacking options in the continued absence through injury of Britt Assombalonga and the loss yesterday to West Ham of goalscoring sideman Michail Antonio.

Hughton expects O’Grady to get more playing time at Forest and said: “He is a great professional, and has been good to work with since I came here in January.”

O’Grady, under contract at the Amex until the summer of 2017, will not be eligible for Forest when the Seagulls visit the City Ground on April 9.

Watford forward Matej Vydra, in whom Albion were interested, went to Reading for the rest of the season in exchange for a loan fee of £2.5 million.
