Luke Wright completed 1,000 LV County Championship runs in a season for the first time as Sussex took control of their Division One basement clash with Worcestershire at New Road.

The former England one-day player took 23 balls to get off the mark but then produced a series of splendid attacking strokes in reaching 98 not out when play ended two overs early because of bad light - the second post-tea interruption.

It was Wright's tenth score of 50 or more in the Championship this season.

One to date has been converted into three figures although there is the potential to double that number on Thursday.

He reached the 1,000 run mark with a leg glance for four off Worcestershire paceman Jack Shantry.

By the time bad light intervened for the second time, Wright's partnership with Ben Brown (45 not out) was so far worth 157 in 34 overs.

Wright has so far struck one six and 16 fours in his 141 ball innings with Sussex standing on 251-3 - a lead of 41.
