Samoa have been told to forget about a possible showdown with Scotland – and concentrate on beating the USA.

Coach Stephen Betham has named his XV to face the States at the Amex on Sunday.

And his assistant Alama Ieremia has refused to look beyind that test as most observers back the Pacific Islanders to compete with the Scots for second place in Pool B.

Ieremia admits Samoa must improve on their last warm-up performance, when they scraped past Wasps at the Ricoh.

The former All Black told The Argus: “I’d like to think our performances are up there and results will follow.

“The USA are our only focus this week.

“If we have a good start there, then we will worry about the rest of the pool.

“But I’m very impressed by the USA at the moment.

“They have taken it up a notch after their showing against the Wallabies and their other preparation games.

“They are certainly a team we are not going to under-estimate.

“We’ve just got make sure we stay focussed on the task.

“Motivation to do well looks after itself.”

Samoa have been training at the University of Brighton and, like Japan and now the USA, are based on Brighton seafront.

Ieremia added: “We couldn’t have started at a better place.”

Samoa’s XV includes Northampton wing Ken Pisi and his club-mate Kahn Fotuali’i, formerly of Ospreys, at scrum-half.

Tim Nanai-Williams' mazy running makes him a man to look out for full-back.

Samoa XV: Nanai-Williams; K.Pisi, Perez, Ree-Lo, Tuilagi; T.Pisi, Fotuali’i; Taulafo, Avei, Perenise; Paulo, Tekori; Fa’asavalu, Treviranus, Lam.
