LEWIS DUNK is not guaranteed a run in the team after a commanding return to Albion’s starting line-up.

That is the message from manager Chris Hughton, who is spoilt for choice at centre-half.

Dunk made his first home start in the Championship since the opening game of the season against Cardiff at the Amex on Saturday.

Recalled at the expense of Uwe Huenemeier, he kept Kenwyne Jones quiet in tandem with skipper Gordon Greer and denied the Welshmen a flattering lead with a second-half clearance off the line from substitute Sammy Ameobi.

Hughton has alternated between Dunk and Huenemeier during a hat-trick of draws for his league leaders against Wolves – where the German was ruled out by injury – Bolton and Cardiff.

He also has recent signing Connor Goldson from Shrewsbury as back-up.

Hughton, explaining Dunk’s recall, said: “It was twofold. In our game at Cardiff last season I thought he did very well.

“Plus we have got four very good centre-halves and sometimes you have to move them around, pick particular games for particular players. I just felt it would be the right game for Dunky.”

Greer, above, has linked up with the Scotland squad preparing for tomorrow night’s crucial Euro qualifier against second-placed Poland at Hampden Park (7.45pm).

The Scots have to better the Republic of Ireland’s result at home to group leaders German to retain a chance of qualifying for the play-offs ahead of their final fixture against Gibraltar in Faro on Sunday night.
