Albion boss Chris Hughton believes a Championship rival is due a pasting against his table-toppers.

The Seagulls created a hatful of chances in Saturday’s 1-1 home draw with Cardiff.

The six wins so far for Hughton’s unbeaten pacesetters have all been by the odd goal but he has predicted that will change.

Hughton said: “It’s just work on the training pitch. Sometimes you can play not as well as we have and everything goes your way.

“At some stage we’ll put in a big performance as regards goals.

“You can wait for the moment but you have to keep working on the training pitch.”

Sam Baldock had several chances to score against Cardiff on his 200th career start, as his goalless sequence stretched to eight games, but Hughton is satisfied with the striker’s contribution.

He said: “Sam is working incredibly hard for the team. He has got very high energy levels.

“Probably that’s the part of his game (finishing) that’s just missing at the moment but certainly you can’t fault what he’s giving to the team.”

Baldock was on target at the Amex in February against Leeds, Albion’s next opponents before a visit from his former club Bristol City.

Meanwhile Adrian Colunga could sign for a Spanish club in January after parting company with the Seagulls yesterday. The former Getafe frontrunner was under contract until next summer.

Club and player mutually agreed to cancel his contract but Colunga cannot sign for a new employer until the transfer market re-opens.

Seagulls boss Chris Hughton admitted Colunga had found it tough to get into the side this season but added: “He has been extremely professional and worked hard in training throughout my time here.”
