Chief executive Zac Toumazi insists there will be no knee-jerk reaction to Sussex’s relegation.

Coach Mark Robinson has come under pressure from some supporters after Sussex dropped out of division one of the Championship.

Toumazi has revealed that a review of the coaching set-up will take place but that Robinson’s ten-year tenure at Hove is not under any threat.

He said: “The moment you are relegated it provokes extreme views from supporters as it is an emotional time. I understand people care strongly but you have to take a step back.

“Fans have an opinion and I respect that but Robbo has served this county extremely well over the years and you don’t become a bad coach overnight.

“He has put his heart and soul into this club. We’ve had a couple of disappointing seasons but there are clubs a lot bigger than ours which you can say the same about.

“All I can say is that we are working to decide what the future is and at the moment we haven’t decided. Robbo and I are looking at all aspects of the cricket set-up in line with the financial constraints we face but no decisions have been made yet.”

Matt Prior has repeated his desire to be take on a coaching role at Hove this week having been forced to retire at the start of last season due to injury.

Toumazi has confirmed he has held talks with him and added: “We can’t give someone a job that doesn’t exist but we are exploring some options with Matt.

“He has lots of knowledge and loves the club but equally there are other people out there who would like a role."
