Albion are poised for an eventful end to the emergency loan transfer window.

There could be at least one player in and one more going out from the Amex before Thursday's 5pm deadline for temporary moves.

The Seagulls head into their last match prior to the window closing at Burnley today without long-term injury victim Gaetan Bong and Sam Baldock.

Left-back Bong is out until January with thigh damage. Striker Baldock misses the trip to Turf Moor, also with a thigh injury.

Boss Chris Hughton is happy with the strength in depth of his squad. But he is also keen to ensure all bases are covered for a six-match December, including games against promotion rivals Derby County and Middlesbrough, when Albion will be barred from further business.

He told The Argus: "I'm reasonably comfortable. We are assessing things all the time and we will definitely look to get to next Thursday and try to determine where we want to be going past next Thursday and the period of time when we know we can't bring anybody in.

"We have been, I think, fortunate, although we've lost a couple (injured) over this last period but certainly no more than other clubs and others have had more difficulties than us.

"We'll try the best way that we can to protect ourselves because we've got a very difficult December. We're not far off doing that and we've got really good competition at the moment."

Jake Forster-Caskey is set to follow England under-21s colleague Christian Walton back out on loan before the window shuts.

Keeper Walton has returned to his first club Plymouth Argyle until January after an earlier loan stint at Bury was cut short by injury.

Forster-Caskey came back recently from a month on loan at MK Dons, who are big admirers of the midfielder.

Hughton says they have not been back in touch but he has indicated a willingness to loan Forster-Caskey out elsewhere to get the game time he craves.

Hughton said: "Probably Jake's the only one that maybe a decision has got to be made on. He's gone away and played, which is exactly what he wanted, but he is somebody that is used to playing."

The injury suffered by Baldock against MK Dons in Albion's last outing at the Amex deprives the Seagulls of his services at Turf Moor this afternoon for only the second time in the league this season.

Team-mate Liam Rosenior said: "He's a joy to play with. He's a threat, he makes fantastic runs, has great movement, but his tactical understanding of the game and his diligence in terms of his workrate and desire to be in the right defensive and offensive positions give a massive help to the team.

"If it wasn't for his contribution we wouldn't be where we are now. People always speak about the goals we have or have not scored or what our strikers have scored but he brings so much to the team.

"I think he's been one of our best players this season but it's a chance for someone else to come and stake their claim. We've got a very competitive squad and one that's looking forward to the challenge ahead."

That includes trying to keep pace, against the financial odds, with Rosenior's former club Hull, who have overtaken long-time leaders Albion at the top of the table on goal difference following relegation from the Premier League with Burnley last season.

Rosenior said: "I'm not surprised. You look at the transfer value of their players. You've got a right-back for £3.5 million (Moses Odubajo), a striker Abel (Hernandez), who I played with last season that cost £10 or £11 million.

"You've got £5 million players on the bench and they should be where they are and they will be where they are because they've got fantastic players.

"From my point of view, we maybe don't have the money or have spent the money they have but we have the spirit and the players.

"What's important is where we end up at the end of the season and that's all I'm interested in."
