Boss Chris Hughton has written off Albion's chances of becoming the Championship's Invincibles.

The Seagulls attempt to stretch their unbeaten start to 18 matches against sixth-placed Birmingham at the Amex on Saturday.

Arsenal's Invincibles went through a 38-game Premier League season unbeaten in 2003-04. Albion have an extra eight fixtures to negotiate in the Championship and, in a division so competitive from top to bottom, Hughton regards it as virtually Mission Impossible to remain undefeated.

He said: "Somebody asked me and you only have to look at the stats. Arsenal did it a good few years ago in the Premier League but I can't think of any other team that have done it.

"That's the task. If you are looking at odds it's almost impossible to do. But you always want to stay positive and think you can win the next game and the next game after that."

The draw at Burnley on Sunday was Albion's seventh in the last ten games but Hughton does not believe his players are burdened by the sequence.

"I don't get that feel," he said. "The feel I get is that it is incredibly difficult to sustain levels continuously. Out of some of those draws probably the most disappointing was at Bolton, where we conceded in the last minute.

"We missed a penalty at Wolves. I don't get the feel it is weighing us down, I just feel it's the norm. It's really difficult to sustain levels consistently game in, game out. Some of the games we have drawn are arguably games we would have lost last season."
