Albion will go right to the wire to add a loan signing or two to their promotion-chasing squad.

But manager Chris Hughton says he will be comfortable with the status quo if no business is concluded.

The loan window closes at 5pm tomorrow with Hughton, below, keen to cover all bases.

Albion have seven games before the permanent transfer window opens in January, three of them against other teams in the top six, starting with Birmingham’s visit on Saturday.

Hughton told The Argus: “We have to give ourselves the best possible chance and that means right up until whatever time it is on Thursday doing the best we can to try to make sure our squad is the best it can be going into those games.

“But if we don’t we know what we’ve got and we’ve got plenty here to work with.”

Birmingham are being linked with a loan move for Arsenal’s 19-year-old Nigerian prospect Alex Iwobi, with main striker Clayton Donaldson sidelined for six weeks.

Meanwhile, Albion are interested in the League of Ireland’s poster boy Richie Towell in their continuing bid to improve the back-up options for next season, when FIFA are abolishing the loan windows.

The 24-year-old attacking midfielder scored 25 goals to help Dundalk retain the League of Ireland title in the season just finished. Former Celtic youth Towell also scored in their double-clinching cup final victory over Cork and at the weekend was named the Irish PFA’s player of the year.
