Solly March has been told he has only touched the surface of his potential with Albion.

The next step for the England under-21 prospect, according to manager Chris Hughton, is to reproduce influential displays on a more regular basis.

March goes into the Championship match of the day at promotion rivals Derby County in the form of his life. He was nominated for the November player of the month, won yesterday by Ipswich striker Daryl Murphy, following two goals in three games and his first start for England’s Young Lions at the Amex.

March’s purple patch continued turn to page 47 against Charlton at the Amex last Saturday. He was named man of the match by the sponsors after shrugging off an early head wound.

Hughton said: “I think Solly has been excellent. The nice part for him was that under-21 game at the Amex, which was a real confidence booster.

“But over this past month he has been able to take his performances to another level. We have wanted assists and scoring. That’s an area we still feel he can develop.

“I think he is going to get stronger and stronger as he plays more games but he has been excellent for us over the last month.

“The major factor for Solly now is to remain consistent and sometimes it can be difficult when you play in the position that he does. When you are a wide player the expectation is to beat players and that is very difficult to maintain week-in, week-out.

“He will have highs and lows but he can be having not a great game and produce something.”

The Argus revealed last week that West Ham and Stoke are tracking March’s progress, together with reported interest from Southampton.

Hughton said: “When you are a winger with the ability to produce what he can at times it can catch the eye. The most important thing is that any player who is catching the eye is producing for us.”

Hughton missed out on the Championship manager of the month prize, won by Ipswich’s Mick McCarthy.
