Albion are wondering whether to throw in the Towell in the FA Cup.

That is the dilemma facing boss Chris Hughton as he ponders over his team for Saturday’s third round tie at Hull.

Hughton has already indicated he will make sweeping changes to give key front line players a breather before the return to the Championship promotion push at Rotherham next week.

Does that mean there will be room for recent Irish signing Richie Towell to make his debut?

Albion revealed the capture of prolific Dundalk midfielder Towell at the end of November.

The signing was announced well ahead of the opening of the January transfer window.

The Hull tie is the first time Towell has been eligible, together with fellow newcomer Liam Ridgewell on loan from MLS outfit Portland Timber, providing the Seagulls secure international clearance for the duo before the deadline at midday on Friday.

Even Hughton is unsure whether Towell is ready to be thrown straight in. He told The Argus: “I think in all honesty with Richie, we are yet to find out.

“He had a very good season in the League of Ireland but we’re conscious of the levels of League of Ireland.

“We wouldn’t have taken him if we didn’t feel he could push and be part of a squad, make progress.

“We’ll find out how quickly he can adjust. Sometimes you get a player that can step up.

“Certainly from a confidence point of view he’s a confident lad and I don’t think it will be a problem.

“It’s one we’re looking forward to finding out.”
