Chris Hughton believes his new Czech forward can add goals to Albion’s promotion push.

But he has urged Albion fans to allow Jiri Skalak time to settle after his move from Mlada Boleslav.

The 23-year-old international could make his debut at home to Brentford on Friday subject to international clearance.

Skalak scored the winner recently in a friendly against Oscar Garcia’s Red Bull Salzburg but has not played a league game since the Czech top-flight broke up for its winter break on December 6.

Hughton said: “I see him going through a settling in period but you never know.

“He is a foreign player, his English is okay and some players will adjust quicker than others.

“But I think it will take a while.

“He is not an out and out No.9 but he’s a gifted player on the ball. He wouldn’t be one who would have Solly March’s type of pace.

“But he is a good technical player, he is capable of scoring goals and he is very much in the frame to go to the Euros in the summer.”
