Albion are right back in the hunt for automatic promotion after leaders Hull were beaten today and second-placed Middlesbrough were held at home.
Hull lost 1-0 at Burnley to a second half goal by former Albion loan striker Sam Vokes.
The result means Burnley are back above the Seagulls in third but only three points divide the top four.
Middlesbrough were grateful for David Nugent's equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Blackburn, who led through on-loan Jodi Gomez.
Results elsewhere were favourable to Albion as well.
Rohan Ince, making his debut on loan from the Seagulls to Fulham, helped them to a 1-1 draw against fifth-placed Derby at Craven Cottage.
Ipswich, sixth at the start of the day, were beaten by a late Matt Phillips goal at Queens Park Rangers.
Sheffield Wednesday have overtaken them after coming from behind to win 2-1 at fellow play-off contenders Birmingham.
Albion loanee Jake Forster-Caskey featured for MK Dons in a 0-0 draw at ninth-placed Cardiff.
Another of Albion's temporary departures, Dutch striker Elvis Manu, made his debut as a 78th minute substitute in Huddersfield's 2-1 defeat at Preston.
The Seagulls, 3-0 winners against Brentford at the Amex last night, were one of only three teams in the top ten before the latest round of matches in the Championship to take maximum points.
