Jiri Skalak is getting used to the rough and tumble of the Championship and Albion.

Assistant manager Colin Calderwood says the Czech winger feels part of the promotion push as he prepares for an international collision with a team-mate and the prospect of his full home debut.

January signing Skalak celebrated his second start for the Seagulls with the cross for Tomer Hemed’s second goal in Saturday’s 2-1 win at MK Dons.

The assist has boosted his chances of retaining a spot for leaders Burnley’s visit to the Amex on April 2 after the Czech Republic’s friendly against a Scotland squad featuring Albion captain Gordon Greer in Prague tomorrow night.

Calderwood said: “The second goal was built off Jiri’s terrific cross. It was another tough introduction to Championship football, lots of challenges where he came off second best.

“He was caught once or twice but his crossing ability was there for everyone to see and it’s those moments we’ve seen on the training ground.

“You saw one in the first half. He put a lovely cross in, a nice weight and shape of pass.

“Jiri feels very much part of it. He has had to be patient, as has Richie Towell, who has trained extremely well since he joined us.

“We’ve got a very together group, which everyone would expect if you have got a chance of promotion or the play-offs, but it’s not always like that.

“The harmony within the group, the way the ones that don’t play support the ones starting, is the basis of what is good about our club at the moment.”

Skalak could face Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the build-up to the Burnley showdown. The Czech Republic have another friendly in Sweden next Tuesday as they prepare for the Euro finals in France in the summer.
