Chris Jordan's decision to turn his back on Sussex to play in the IPL will have got them grumbling in the deckchairs at Hove.

I can understand supporters being disappointed at losing such a key player for a whole month - especially after he missed the start of the season to rest an injury - and some will even question his commitment to the county.

But if those same people put themselves in CJ's shoes I am sure they would have made the same decision. It is a fantastic opportunity for him to play in the premier domestic Twenty20 competition in the world and make a few extra quid at the same time.

Everybody who I have spoken to who has taken part in the IPL has said what a wonderful experience it was and how playing alongside the best players in the world can only improve you as a player.

Yes, it's tough on Sussex but they can at least console themselves that when Chris does return he should be an even bigger asset to their side - even if his appearances are limited due to England commitments.

My only argument with CJ going to India is that I think there could be an opening in the Test team this summer and it may have been better for him to stay and get some overs under his belt in the Championship.

We don't have a big battery of fast bowlers at our disposal and with Mark Wood already ruled out it would only take one of James Anderson, Stuart Broad and Steve Finn to go down to open the door for Chris.

I know he has only had limited success in Test cricket so far but CJ is too classy a player not to get another bite of the cherry and he needs to be in the right place at the right time to grab it.
