Albion boss Chris Hughton has shrugged off Middlesbrough's extra-time to prepare for Saturday's promotion decider.

He insists his players will not be disadvantaged by the quick turnaround between today's home finale against Derby and the huge collision in the North-East.

Boro have 72 hours more to prepare for Albion's crunch visit to the Riverside Stadium following Friday's 2-2 draw at Birmingham.

Hughton told The Argus: "The only advantage, which is a big advantage, is that Middlesbrough play at home against us.

"There would be as many examples of teams having more preparation time that have lost.

"I think in this division you're used to playing a lot of midweek games – on the Tuesday or Wednesday and then on the Saturday.

"Going into the game you would like it even but I don't think there's any advantage."

Ex-Tottenham stalwart Hughton is not spurred on by unfinished business in the Premier League after losing his job at Norwich before they were relegated and at Newcastle within months of steering them to the Championship title.

He said: "My motivation is not to get myself back into the Premier League.

"My motivation is to get this team into the Premier League and do the best job that I can for this team, for my employers, this group of lads. That's by far the bigger drive for me."
