Paul Horton and Mark Cosgrove thwarted Sussex’s hopes of mounting a fightback on the second day of their County Championship clash with Leicestershire at Hove.

The pair put on a century partnership for the third wicket to help the visitors reach 254-3 at tea after the entire morning session was washed out.

That gives them a lead of 91 following Sussex’s disastrous batting collapse on the first day when they were bowled out for just 163.

Leicestershire resumed on 140-2 when the second day got under way at 2.10pm with Cosgrove and Horton carrying on where they had left off yesterday.

Sussex’s only joy in the afternoon session came in the over after Horton had brought up his 22nd first class century.

George Garton made the breakthrough as the opener was given out – much to his displeasure - caught down the leg-side by Ben Brown for 100 having added 114 with Cosgrove for the third wicket.

Cosgrove reached tea unbeaten on 71 while Mark Pettini is 18 not out.
