David Stockdale wants to clinch promotion for his red-carded team-mate.

The Albion goalkeeper had some sympathy for Lewis Dunk, who was sent-off in today’s 1-1 draw with Derby.

Dunk will be suspended for the decisive trip to Middlesbrough – as he was when the sides met at the Amex in December.

But Stockdale felt he was unfortunate to receive his first yellow and will tell the defender to keep his head up.

He said: “The challenges you have seen in the game, I think their right-back could have been sent-off as well.

The Argus:

“The first one Lewis did in the middle of the park might have been his first foul.

“The lad is gutted, we are gutted. We have got a great man to come in, the club captain (Gordon Greer).

“It’s about how Lewis responds to this and I’m pretty sure he will be shaking our hands at Middlesbrough when we are up there.

“I just put an arm around him and said ‘We’re going to do for you’. That is all you can say.”
