Chris Eubank junior insists he and his father are not “actors” and their concern for Nick Blackwell was never about milking the publicity.

Blackwell called the pair “inhuman” for holding a press conference against his family’s wishes while he was still in an induced coma in hospital after his tenth-round stoppage loss to Brighton’s Eubank Jr in March.

He accused the Eubanks in an interview with The Sun of attention-grabbing and “trying to make themselves look like the good guys when they are the opposite”.

But Eubank Jr, 26, believes he was in a “lose-lose” situation if he did or did not host a press conference and stands by everything he and his father, Chris senior, said at the time, which included messages of support to Blackwell on social media.

Eubank Jr told The Argus in an exclusive interview: “The British public are not stupid and they know when someone is disingenuous or has ulterior motives.

“Me and my father are not actors, we’re sportsmen. The things I said in interviews, and contacting Nick through social media, people can see that it is real.

“If it wasn’t real and just for a publicity stunt or whatever you want to call it, people would see right through that. I am not an actor.

“So I don’t understand why he thinks that of me and my father and, hopefully, if we do get to sit down and talk it out, then maybe he will come around. If not, it is what it is and we shall move on.”

Eubank Jr has again offered via social media to meet Blackwell – but has not had a response.

The British middleweight champion, who defends the belt on June 25 in London, said: “I hope it happens but I’ve had no response from him or his camp. Time will tell.

“It was an amazing fight but because of what happened to him, it took away from the fight itself.

“On top of that, for him to wake up and say what he has, it has muddied the fight even more.”
