Johanna Konta will prepare in luxury for Wimbledon after moving up a place in the seedings.

The Eastbourne-based British No.1 has been elevated from 17 to 16 by the withdrawal of Victoria Azaranka due to a knee injury.

The swish members’ locker room at the All England Club is open only to the top 16 seeds and former champions.

Former British No.1 Annabel Croft said: “It is probably the most beautiful locker room in the world.

“They have sofas, magazines, attendants to run your bath for you. It’s a whole level of service you can’t imagine.”

Ex-world No.1 Monica Seles said: “It looked more like Buckingham Palace than a tournament site. Silver trays and china were laid out in perfect alignment on tables, and a stunning display of food was right in the middle of the room.

“It was the fanciest thing I’d ever seen. It was like I’d stumbled back in time to a tea party in Victorian England.”

Konta joked before her rankings rise was revealed: “Number 17? Almost made it upstairs. Yeah, woo!”

World No.18 Konta, who finds out her first round opponent at Wimbledon today, cannot now face a top eight seed until the last 16.

A thunderstorm at Eastbourne yesterday means Konta will have to play both her quarter-final in the Aegon International against 2010 champion Ekaterina Makarova and a potential semi-final against Karolina Pliskova or Elena Vesnina today.
