Adam Ellis is flying again – with a World Cup call and what seems to be a successful return from a broken collarbone.

Now the Eastbourne No.1 aims to get right back to his best during a tough schedule of three meetings in a week, plus an Elite League fixture with Poole.

Ellis returns to the Eagles side as they host King’s Lynn in the Knockout Cup today (3.30pm).

He does so after being named in Alun Rossiter’s ten-man party for Team GB’s World Cup final at Belle Vue on July 30.

Rossiter has named three young riders – Ellis, Josh Bates and Robert Lambert – and must pick one of them as his track reserve.

But, with Lambert tipped to be in the starting line-up, it comes down to Bates versus Ellis for the reserve berth.

The Eagles heat-leader said: “It’s something I wasn’t really expecting at the start of the year but everything got off to a pretty good start.

“My main aim was to qualify for the under-21 stuff. I’ve done that and this is like a bonus.

“It’s pretty cool. It’s something I’m looking forward to being part of.

“Me and Josh are in the team and it gives us chance of being part of it during the meeting and maybe getting a ride. It’s definitely a big learning curve.”

Ellis was named in the Team GB under-21 side but had to pull out after fracturing his collarbone riding for Poole.

He returned in the first round of the World Under-21 Championship final for individual riders last Saturday and got better as he went along on the way to five points from as many rides.

The 20–year-old said: “I tried coming back at King’s Lynn but I think it might have been a bit sooner than I should have done. I scored five points so I was reasonably happy in the circumstances.

“When the track was grippy, I struggled to hang on to the bike.

“I’m feeling a lot better so hopefully it will be all right for a busy week.”

Gary Cottham is still missing with a broken collarbone as Eagles tackle Young Stars in what was originally due to be a league fixture.

The Sussex track go to Cradley, who give Richard Andrews his debut, tomorrow and tackle the big one at home to champions Birmingham next Saturday.

Eagles: Ellis, Cottham r/r, Wood, Perks, Knight, Harris, Powell.

King’s Lynn: Ayres, Campos, Kinsley, Stokes, Greaves, Whitmore, Hazelden.
