Chris Eubank Junior wants his next fight to be for world honours after an impressive first defence of his British middleweight title.

The Brighton fighter stopped Tom Doran in the fourth round at London’s 02 Arena to bring an autumn showdown with the world’s leading middleweight Gennady Golovkin a step closer.

The build-up to Saturday’s fight with Doran was overshadowed by talk of a possible clash with Golovkin after promoter Eddie Hearn revealed negotiations were at an advanced stage.

And Eubank Jr, 26, told The Argus his sights are set on winning world titles after overcoming the latest hurdle.

Asked if Golovkin would now happen, Eubank Jr said: “That’s what I want but it’s not so much Golovkin, I want to be a world champion.

“Every fighter wants to be a world champion and he has the belt.

“He has three belts and I want them.

“If Eddie can work his magic, like he says he can, that can happen.”

Chris Eubank senior, the former two-weight world champion, echoed his son’s commitment to moving up to world level.

He said: “The whole objective is to get to the top. Playing games and not taking risks gets you nowhere in life.

“The talks are advanced, the people holding it back now are Sky.”  Hearn revealed Team Eubank’s demands on the pay-per-view split could be a stumbling block.

Hearn said: “Basically the deal is done. We have a meeting with Sky on Monday and he (Eubank senior) will try to bend a few numbers.

“But the reality is if they (Team Eubank) really want the fight it is ready to happen. I can’t do any more than I’ve done.”
