SHANE DUFFY has targeted a Premier League return with Albion – after his top flight career was cut short by a move for David Moyes.

Moyes handed the Seagulls’ record signing his debut for Everton in the Europa League when he was only 17.

Duffy also had a run of games in the Premier League at Goodison Park as a 21-year-old following loan spells at Burnley in Scunthorpe.

Then Moyes left for Manchester United, Duffy’s progress stalled under successor Roberto Martinez and the centre-half rebuilt his career with a loan move to Yeovil and permanent switch to Blackburn.

Duffy, 24, bought by Albion from Rovers for a fee of around £3.5 million, said: “He (Moyes) signed me when I was 16 and then he gave me my debut in the Premier League and played me in Europe. Unfortunately, he got a big job at Man United and left.

“It stopped for me and I ended up moving on. Managers have different opinions.

“I think it was a good decision for me to leave, drop a division and learn from the mistakes I was making.

“Hopefully I can push on from here and try to get back into the Premier League with Brighton.”
