Tomer Hemed showed again he is ‘the man’ on the spot to snatch Albion’s first away success of the season.

The Israel international’s 88th minute winner at Burton continued his impressive record with penalties since stepping up to the role when he played in Spain.

They have provided seven of his 20 goals for the Seagulls. His only failure was at Wolves a year ago.

Hemed told The Argus: “It’s funny because in Israel I wasn’t a penalty taker. Teams I played for usually had somebody else.

“When I left for Spain and Mallorca they said they had not done well with penalties the season before. I thought it was a good chance for me to be the man.

“In our first season we got five penalties and I scored all of them. From then on I have tried with every team, including the national team, to be the penalty taker.

“It’s not easy, especially when it happens late. I am happy to bring my quality into this sort of situation.”

Hemed kept a cool head after Jiri Skalak had been fouled in front of the Albion fans at the Pirelli Stadium – just as he did at Fulham and MK Dons last season.

He said: “It’s not something I work every day on. We do it sometimes in training with the goalkeepers but it’s just normal for me.

“It’s a big responsibility. There are a few times I’ve done it with our fans behind the goal, at Fulham and at MK Dons, now again. That makes it more emotional.

“I like that kind of situation. You need to concentrate and not let the pressure affect you.

“People think it’s easy but you see the best players miss penalties in difficult moments. I am happy that I scored and we won. I just hope next time it comes a bit earlier!”
