Danny Mills' double helped Whitehawk to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Oxford City – but boss Richard Hill says there is still room for improvement from the striker and his new-look side.

Hill has shaken up the squad since his first game in charge saw a lightweight Hawks beaten 1-0 by Chelmsford.

Seven Brazilians were released last week and, although Hill’s second game at the Enclosed Ground was a far more pleasing outcome as new signing Reece Connolly also netted, the scoreline could have been a lot more emphatic.

Mills headed home the opener on 41 minutes after Connolly crossed from the left.

He added a second ten minutes after the break, finishing superbly after being played in by Mike West.

Connolly rifled in the third when he pounced on a loose ball with seven minutes to go after Mills was denied his hat-trick.

It was a third straight win for the Hawks but Hill was disappointed with the number of chances squandered.

Hill said: “You know when you get good chances you have to score them.

“I’m not taking anything away from Danny as he’s scored two goals today but he should have scored more.

“He’s missed a couple of good chances and you can’t do that”

The former Eastleigh boss added: “I’m disappointed with aspects of the game, but at the end of the day we won and we need to win football matches.

“I don’t think we kept the ball well enough, but it’s still early days with me being at the club and how I want them to play.”

Hill, pictured, can see his message is getting through, though.

He said: “I don’t want to be a team that tends to lose the ball, you know you can put pressure on the opposition but you need to pass the ball better. My methods of working hard are definitely coming through.”

Hawks created chances throughout the first half and it was only a matter of time before Mills broke the deadlock.

Oxford City rarely threatened Hawks goalkeeper Lucas Covolan, often resorting to long balls forward from midfield that were generally defended well.

Whitehawk return to action tomorrow against Hemel Hempstead.

Hill said: “The game in hand is a tough game, but they’re all tough games. We’ve still got 31 games to go so we’ll see where we are at the end of the season but at the moment everything’s great.”
