Connor Goldson has no complaints about his fringe role for Albion so far this season.

The central defender makes his first Championship start of the campaign at Wigan today after a summer knee injury and the arrival of record signing Shane Duffy.

Goldson covers for the suspended Lewis Dunk, who is likely to step straight back in for Norwich’s visit next Saturday.

Goldson said: “It’s obviously been tough so far, but the boys have been flying, so I haven’t really got any moans or groans. It was just a tough time to get my injury during pre-season.

“We needed four centre-halves and I had a feeling another one would come in. He’s (Duffy) done brilliantly. He’s formed a good partnership with Dunky and kept clean sheets. So I haven’t got a problem with not being in the team at the moment.”

Wigan are next-to-bottom after winning League One last season but Goldson is not under-estimating them.

“It’s hard for any team that comes up into the Championship,” he said. “There’s a lot of massive clubs who spend a vast amount of money on building big squads.

“Even when you look at our squad this year, we’ve got such strength in depth in every single position.

“They’re doing well on the budget they have and I think they’ve got a good team. They ended up running away with League One last season.

“It’s going to be another tough ask, any away game in this league is a tough game.”
