JAMIE MURPHY has urged Albion to beware of a Norwich backlash in their “massive” showdown at the Amex.

The Scottish winger is relishing the chance to take on an old adversary and a former team-mate as second play fourth in the Championship on Saturday.

But he suspects Canaries boss Alex Neil will have his men fired up after recent disappointments.

He told The Argus: “I’ve played against him plenty of times when he played for Hamilton and I was a younger boy at Motherwell.

“If his team are anything like he played as a holding midfielder, I’m sure it will be tough.

“It’s a massive game. Norwich are a big club and a great side.”

Murphy dismisses any idea Newcastle and Norwich are favourites to take the automatic promotion spots.

He added: “We want to get promoted. We are no different from most teams.

“We did well last season and we want to take that one step further.”

Norwich did not report any new injury worries after their much-changed side were taken to extra-time and penalties before losing at Leeds in the League Cup on Tuesday.

The Canaries dropped points recently at Fulham, drawing 2-2 after leading 2-0, and at home to Preston, losing 1-0 last Saturday.

Albion are likely to bring back central defender Lewis Dunk after a ban for what could be a terrific battle with six-goal Cameron Jerome, rated by many who follow the Canaries as the best centre-forward in the division.

Murphy, substitute for the last two games, would love to take on former team-mate John Ruddy, who has been City’s substitute goalkeeper in the league of late.

He said: “I played with John for a season at Motherwell when he was on loan and he did great for us.

“You can see now he has gone on to play for England and stuff like that.”
