Boss Chris Hughton has warned it will be tough for Albion to make amends for one of the low points of his reign.

The Seagulls head to Cardiff today, where they were thrashed 4-1 in February.

Cardiff, promoted Middlesbrough and Wolves were the only teams to take four points off them as they just missed out on the Premier League.

Hughton told The Argus: “The two last season were Rotherham away and the Cardiff one away sticks out the most.

“I didn’t think the performance was as bad as the one at Rotherham but it was one of those days where it all went against us.

The Argus:

“The moment we decided to get into the game we were already 3-0 down.

“That would be one of the lowest in terms of performance and results since I’ve been here.”

Albion have lost only once away in the Championship in the regular season in 15 games since the Cardiff debacle, at leaders Newcastle United in August.

Hughton believes Neil Warnock’s Welshmen, one place off the bottom after losing at Aston Villa last Saturday, are in a false position.

He said: “Most people would have expected Cardiff to be in a better position than they are, but they’ve certainly had a few of their key players out for periods this season.

“They have real quality and Neil’s showed some consistency in the team. If I look at the games since he took over, there hasn’t been too many changes in the starting 11.

“They’ve been able to compete and, even in the games where they haven’t got the result they wanted, they were up against some of the top teams.

“I watched their game at Villa. They were unfortunate to not come away from the game with something. They’re very close and I expect them to start picking up points.”
