Albion have been handed a home draw against League One opponents in the FA Cup.
The Seagulls will play MK Dons or Charlton, who drew 0-0 at the Valley on Saturday.
Albion fielded a much-changed team as they went out 1-0 at promotion rivals Hull City in the third round last season.
It is their first home draw at this stage since beating Reading three seasons ago.
If Albion and/or Newcastle go through, it will lead to the re-arrangement of their six-pointer at the Amex, which is currently scheduled for fourth round day.
Rafa Benitez’s men visit Birmingham City in the third round, which takes place on the weekend of January 7 and 8.
