Albion are set to face two-time former player of the season Liam Bridcutt in their promotion clash with Leeds United.

Bridcutt is on course to return to the Leeds squad after injury at the Amex on Friday night.

Bridcutt, sidelined since September, has resumed training with the in-form Yorkshiremen following their home win over Aston Villa at the weekend.

Manager Garry Monk said: “He’s needed as well, as the 18 we had against Villa are our only fit players. I will have a good look at him this week.”

Bridcutt, signed permanently by Leeds after a successful loan spell last season, was influential in Albion’s rise from League One to the Championship play-offs under Gus Poyet before controversially following the Uruguayan to Sunderland.

Meanwhile, Albion are tracking Aldershot whizz-kid Idris Kanu.

The Seagulls have been following Kanu for the last two months as part of their ongoing attempts to improve the quality of the squads at development level.

Championship rivals Wolves and Reading are also hot on his trail, together with Crystal Palace.

Kanu, 17 yesterday, was with West Ham’s academy before joining Manchester United on trial. He netted twice for United’s under-18s in a 5-1 win against Middlesbrough, then joined National League outfit Aldershot on a contract until the end of next season.

Kanu scored his third goal for the Shots at the weekend in their 2-0 victory over Boreham Wood.

Boss Gary Waddock said: “We’re fortunate to have a very talented player.”
