David Stockdael will forget about the title race today – by watch- ing his four-year-old proudly wear the Albion colours.

The Seagulls extended their un- beaten run to 14 matches by going top of the table overnight with a 2-0 win over Leeds.

It was their 13th clean sheet of the campaign, 12 of them kept by Stock- dale.

The Albion keeper is delighted his side have answered any early-season doubts but is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.

The Leeds-born keeper said: “We are not getting too ahead of our - selves. Last year this was a bumpy period for us and you can’t take that out of people’s minds but playing how we are, with competition for places, you just think ‘Keep the ball rolling, keep going’.

“We had a bit of a bad patch early in the season where we lost a couple of games and people thought ‘That’s them gone’.

“But you just keep ticking the points off and hopefully, in May, we are thinking about a gap between us and third place.”

Stockdale will not be following Newcastle’s game with Birmingham today as they bid to return to the summit.

He said: “I’ve got my little boy’s football training that I’ve not been to yet because it’s on a Saturday. I can’t wait for that.

“All my attention will be on that and then I’ve got a Christmas party, a kids’ party, after that.

“I’ll be watching him. He loves his football. He’s up in Crystal Palace territory with his Brighton top on!”

Albion forward Sam Baldock felt a positive opening to the game was key.

He said: “We started with intensi- ty. I felt like the goal was coming and the sending off, though it’s horrible to say it, was a bonus.”
