Albion boss Chris Hughton has saluted his injury-hit side's character and quality in the face of adversity against Sheffield Wednesday at the Amex tonight.

The table-topping Seagulls pulled off a 2-1 win with two Anthony Knockaert goals, despite losing Glenn Murray to a red card at 1-1.

David Stockdale saved Fernando Forestieri's ensuing penalty and follow-up, his second spot-kick save in succession.

The keeper also saved a penalty against his old club Fulham at Craven Cottage in another 2-1 victory for Albion at the start of the year.

Hughton said: "I'm delighted. Apart from the manner of the victory, we were playing against a very good side and they had really good moments in the game.

"To come back like that when you have got ten men is always a wonderful feeling and any manager at that stage would have settled for a draw. To go on and win it shows tremendous character.

"It also shows quality. If you are down to ten men you are generally going to go 4-4-1, which means they are going to have a lot of the ball and try to open you up.

"You have to defend well. We did that and we were reliant on the goakkeeper to save us again. It's not the first time he's done that. A penalty save lifts everybody as well.

"It lifts the players, lifts the stadium, and they have to take chances."

Wednesday finished in disarray with nine men as sub Steven Fletcher and Sam Hutchinson were both sent-off by busy referee Stuart Attwell in the closing stages.

Murray is now suspended for Cardiff's visit on Tuesday night. Hughton hopes to have Sam Baldock back from a minor calf problem to partner Tomer Hemed, the only available out-and-out striker.

Skipper Bruno (groin) could also be back but Gaetan Bong, Hughton's other first choice full-back, will still be sidelined.
