Chris Hughton believes Albion’s character shone through as they beat Sheffield Wednesday.

The Seagulls boss recognised the manner of last night’s victory at the Amex made for extra special scenes in the changing room but he warned there is not much time to enjoy the 2-1 success.

Hughton said: “There is a wonderful feel always in a group and changing room when you win a game like that. It was similar to the game we had at Birmingham, where we scored two goals in the last ten minutes.

“There is always that wonderful feeling when you win a game late or in adversity. Apart from the quality of the team, it shows real character.

“If we are able to achieve what we would like to achieve, I think that would be a game we would look back on – but I can think of a few.

“It doesn’t last long, though, because in four days’ time we have another game and you have to get on with it.”

Albion believe two of their three injured A-listers could make a rapid return for the visit of Cardiff on Tuesday after missing out last night.

Skipper Bruno was absent with a groin problem after 73 successive starts in the Championship and play-offs.

Sam Baldock was ruled out by a calf problem to join the more expected absence of left-back Gaetan Bong (knee). Bong is unlikely to return against the Bluebirds but Hughton believes Bruno and Baldock could make it.

Glenn Murray will be banned after being sent off for handball last night.

Hughton said: “There is no doubt the ball hit Glenn’s hand. How much of that was ball to hand or him protecting himself, I don’t know.”

The promotion ball is now in the court of Newcastle, at home to Rotherham today, and Leeds, who go to Barnsley.
