Albion appreciate more than most just how much small details matter after missing out on promotion last season by such wafer-thin margins.

No stone is being left unturned in pursuit of a place in the Premier League.

Goalkeeper David Stockdale will protect his goal with a dossier of intelligence imprinted on his mind at the Amex tomorrow night.

If the Seagulls concede another penalty against Cardiff, Stockdale will have a pretty good idea which way to dive, irrespective of who steps up to take it for the Welshmen.

It is tempting to say Stockdale guessed right when he made his crucial penalty save to deny Fernando Forestieri in the 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Friday evening.

Likewise against his old club Fulham at Craven Cottage, when Albion won by the same score in their first match of 2017.

The truth is former Albion turned goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts gave him a helping hand.

"Again Ben Roberts," Stockdale told The Argus. "I said it at Fulham and I'll say it again now. He puts together a big pack before a game of penalty takers.

"It isn't just one or two, it's penalties going back to when they first started.

"He looks in depth. I've got to give credit where credit is due."
