ALBION goal centurion Sam Baldock has likened Solly March to Premier League and ex-England winger Andros Townsend and says his potential has no limits.

March set up the 100th goal of Baldock’s career in the 4-1 home win over Burton, then earned the penalty for the second of Tomer Hemed’s two goals.

It was only the home-grown 22-year-old’s third Championship start since a year out with knee damage.

Baldock, back from five matches out with calf trouble, told The Argus: “He reminds me of Andros Townsend when came on loan to MK Dons, just his directness and confidence and the way he glides past people. Andros likes to shoot a bit more, Solly likes to assist which I’m pleased about.

“He’s still very young, he’s got a long way to go. I was pleased to see him back at the levels I know he has been achieving over the past few years I’ve been here.

“I was worried for him towards the end. He was putting it through too many people’s legs and he is such a key member of the squad we didn’t want anything bad to happen when people get annoyed! I’m glad he’s come through unscathed.”

Townsend, now at Crystal Palace, has also played in the Premier League for Spurs, Newcastle and QPR, as well as England at senior level. March was forcing his way into the England under-21s before his injury.

Baldock said: “His potential level surpasses anything we’ve seen from him before. His potential is right at the very top. We don’t know if he is just getting back to where he was, where he should be. He is up there with the Solly of old.”

Top scorer Glenn Murray, replaced by Hemed, came off the bench to add his 16th goal of the season and fellow sub Chuba Akpom almost struck on his home debut on loan from Arsenal.

Baldock added: “If most other teams had a goalscorer on 16 goals he would have been playing but the manager has got the confidence in the rest of the squad that he can mix things up and rotate.

“It was me and Tomer and it felt like it worked. We’ll see what happens on Tuesday (home to Ipswich). He’s not short of options. Chuba came on and looked lively as well.

“He’s got good selection headaches and I reckon he’ll be pleased to have them.”
