BATTERED Shane Duffy is ready to help Albion go “back to basics” in the quest for promotion.

The Republic of Ireland international will resume training today nursing a broken nose and expects to face Barnsley in the Championship tomorrow – possibly wearing a mask.

Duffy is determined to help the Seagulls end a run of one point from their last three away trips and open a seven-point gap on currently third-placed Huddersfield, who are in FA Cup action.

He wants to keep things simple at the back as the pack close in.

Duffy told The Argus: “There is nothing to get nervous about, just keep playing your game.

“Everybody knows how good we are. It’s the basic things of being hard to beat, simple balls, play simple passes, do simple things instead of complicating it.

“Maybe things aren’t going our way and we are trying to beat two or three players.

“It is simple things on the pitch which we probably haven’t been doing, even defensively.

“It’s about being solid – and I think that is what the manager wants from us.”

Duffy completed the 1-1 draw with Ipswich on Tuesday after his collision with opposing defender Adam Chambers.

He sat out training yesterday and is willing to play with some sort of protection on his nose if necessary.

The former Blackburn giant said: “I will see what they want to do but I’m sure I will be all right.

“I got quite lucky – not much swelling. It is quite sore to touch now but I played on with it in the game and it was all right.

“I don’t know what the physio’s team are going to do – put something over it, maybe.”
