David Stockdale has hailed a “massive” win for Albion after they took the points at Barnsley.

The Seagulls keeper enjoyed a first away clean sheet since the 0-0 draw at Cardiff on December 3 as his side responded to their frustrating midweek draw at home to Ipswich.

Stockdale said: “It was massive. We were disappointed on Tuesday not to put more pressure with a win.

“But coming here, to a tough place, and putting on a show like that feels like we are getting back to where we were before and putting the right performances in.

“For us, our key thing is our defence and our solidity as a team.

“We defend from the front all the way back and we let the lads who are sharper than us to do their jobs.

“I thought we did that. We were tested but you are always going to be tested.

“It’s about character and our team solidity.

“It was back to basics, nothing silly. They still had their chances but, at this level, everybody is going to have chances.

“I felt we kept our shape, kept our balance really well when at other times we were more gung-ho, trying to win the game rather than trying to get into the game, then win the game.”
