Sophie Perry expects a few good memories to come flooding back when Albion Women get back on the road.

But the Seagulls skipper is more interested in looking forward with her new-look team.

Albion visit Tottenham in the FA Cup today, their third successive away game.

It was at Spurs that they secured the Premier League south title last year before going on to win the overall title and promotion in a play-off.

Now the FA Cup and Spring Series, which they kicked off with a 1-1 draw at London Bees, are helping them prepare for what Perry believes could be an impressive season in Super League 2.

Perry has no doubts Tottenham will be out to prove a point but believes Albion are up for the challenge.

The Argus:

Albion had reason to celebrate at Tottenham last season

She said: “Tottenham is always a tough, physical game. They are our rivals but we have really good memories because we won the league at their place last season.

“They have started the season really well and are currently unbeaten and they will feel they have something to prove against us.

“We’ve made a good start. The Spring Series will be a good opportunity to get us in touch with WSL2 and see the other teams and for the players we have added to the team to gel.”

Tottenham lead the division Albion won last term with a near-perfect 31 points from 11 games and a plus-31 goal difference. Spurs go into the match on the back of a 2-0 home victory over another Sussex side – Lewes – last Sunday.

Perry will be one of the players to whom the Seagulls look for the sort of inspiration and leadership she provided in the play-off final.

The established Republic of Ireland international picked up valuable top-flight experience with Reading last summer.

She said: “I signed for Reading because here was such a long gap between seasons for us.

“I had international games in that period and I needed to be playing.

“It was just a short term thing and I really enjoyed it.

“We played Manchester City, Liverpool and Notts Co, all top sides, and it was a big step up from the Premier League or even WSL2.

“But I think we’ve got a strong team for the next WSL2 season.

“I don’t think we will find the standard difficult at all.

“It will take time to gel and get us knowing each other and the clubs we will play against.

“It will take time to settle but, once that has happened, I believe we can go for promotion next season.”

Close season arrivals include Perry’s international colleague Emma Byrne, previously with Arsenal.

Perry said: “Emma will be a great role model for the younger players at Brighton.

“She has got a huge amount of experience with Arsenal and Ireland.”

The duo will be off with the Irish to the Cyprus Cup at the start of March.

Colin Bell, 35-year-old former boss of FFC Frankfurt, is now in charge of the Ireland squad.

Perry said: “We will be playing four games in the Cyprus Cup and it will be exciting with a new manager to impress.”

Those fixtures could mean Byrne and Perry are not available for their club at home to Doncaster on March 5. The Irish also have a friendly in Slovakia on April 10 during a two-week gap between Spring Series games.
