Chris Hughton has praised Albion’s travelling fans after they enjoyed a welcome away win.
The Seagulls’ following of 1,396 sang throughout their side’s 2-0 success at Barnsley and celebrated at the end.
That figure compared very well with the 625 who followed Oscar Garcia’s play-off hopefuls to the same venue for a Saturday afternoon game towards the end of the 2013-14 season.
Hughton and players offered their thanks as they left the pitch.
It was Albion’s first success at Oakwell since the opening fortnight of the 1991-92 season and only their second since John Templeman fired a late winner back in April, 1972.
Hughton said: “They sang right the way through the game so it was impossible not to hear them.
“Even at 0-0, when perhaps there was a little lull in the game, they were excellent.
“We will need every bit of that going through until the end of the season.”
A travelling contingent of 1,357 backed the Seagulls at Barnsley on the final day of 2011-12, many of them in party mood and most calling for Vicente to stay for another season in what might have been his final game for the club.
