David Stockdale has put thoughts of his future on hold – as he aims to finish the promotion job with Albion.

The popular goalkeeper runs out of contract in the summer and has set his sights on playing in the top flight next term.

He is convinced that can be with the Seagulls as they prepare for big home tussles against fourth-placed Reading and current leaders Newcastle.

Stockdale told The Argus: “All I’m thinking about right now is the Premier League and getting up with Brighton. The rest can wait really.

“I’m 1,000% set on doing it with Brighton so that is all I am thinking about. If something else comes, it comes. Those are just my thoughts now.

“I haven’t complained, I don’t intend to complain because I’ve got a contract. I will see it out until someone sees it otherwise.”

Second-choice keeper Niki Maenpaa, who has done well in very limited outings, is also out of contract this summer, by which time Albion hope to be planning for the top flight.

They face a testing early evening against a Reading side who felt they were unfortunate when edged out 1-0 by Huddersfield on Tuesday.

Ex-Albion loanee Paul McShane returned to their 18 after injury and could force his way into the starting line-up at the Amex. That would be a big call as the Royals’ back four defended well against third-placed Terriers.

Reading appear to be slipping out of the race for automatic promotion but boss Jaap Stam said: “We will keep believing in what we have been doing. We did that on Tuesday and we did it well.

“We’re going to be doing it on Saturday at Brighton and in the next couple of games as well. Hopefully the result is going to be a bit more positive.”
