DARTS legend Phil Taylor is poised to make his final Brighton appearance when the Betway Premier League returns to the south coast tonight.

The Brighton Centre has returned to the Premier League tour this year in favour of Bournemouth, with darts fans set to reward organisers from the Professional Darts Corporation with a sell-out crowd for the Sky Sports-televised event.

The fourth league night of the new season will include the meeting between Taylor and Belgium’s Kim Huybrechts as the 16-time world champion continues what will be his final year on the circuit.

Taylor, 56, has announced his plans to retire in January 2018 following the next World Championship, with his illustrious career having included him winning one of his six Premier League titles in Brighton a decade ago.

“It’s a cracking venue in Brighton and it will be good to get back there,” said Taylor. “We’ve had some great nights there over the years so I’m looking forward to tonight.

“There’s no pressure on me now and I’m not worried about if I win, lose or draw, so I can enjoy it a little bit more.

“I’ve had a good start to the season and I want to keep it going. Kim’s a feisty player and he’s going to do his jumping around, but I’ve noticed that every time he jumps about, he gets beaten.”

World champion Michael van Gerwen is expecting Adrian Lewis to “turn it on” when they meet at the Brighton Centre.

Reigning champion Van Gerwen is one of three unbeaten players at the top of the Premier League table following the opening three weeks of the 2017 season, with Taylor and James Wade also picking up five points so far.

Two-time world champion Lewis has only picked up one win so far this season but Van Gerwen is wary of the threat he poses.

Van Gerwen, pictured, said: “We always have good games but he’s not really in form. I think he can do a little bit more with his talent because I think he is one of the best players, and I need to try to take advantage of his situation.

“He’s not in the best form of his life but you never know with him. You need to make sure you concentrate and play your game. He can turn it on, that’s why you need to make sure you’re prepared for the good Adrian Lewis as when he is good it is tough to beat him.”

The league’s other unbeaten star, Wade, meets world No.2 Gary Anderson while winless Jelle Klaasen faces a key battle with Dave Chisnall.

Five-time world champion Raymond van Barneveld comes up against colourful world No.3 Peter Wright, who impressed with a brilliant defeat of Anderson in Leeds last week.

Wright said: “I’ll have to play another ton-plus average against Raymond because he’s playing some fantastic darts and has done for the last six or seven months. It should be a great game.

“Raymond’s been absolutely brilliant, he’s so steady and consistent and he doesn’t let anything get to him any more. He’s a very dangerous man.

“He’s well above me, he’s won lots of titles and is an awesome player. I wish I’d won what he’s won, but I’m progressing and climbing the ladder, and if I don’t win anything I’m still going to be there biting their ankles!”
