Elliott Bennett hopes it will be thumbs up back at his old ground for Blackburn.

The former Albion winger reckons Rovers have been better than their recent points haul suggests under the new management of Tony Mowbray.

And he believes a trio of 2-2 draws against some of the better sides in the Championship shows they can get something from the Amex tomorrow.

Rovers scored late at Craven Cottage to take a point off a Fulham side on a high from their 3-1 win at Newcastle three days earlier.

But it was the matches either side of that which proved really frustrating.

They came from a goal down to lead away to Bennett’s old club Norwich, who had Mitchell Dijks sent off midway through the first half, before having to settle for a point.

Then, after the midweek point at Craven Cottage, Bennett’s 25-yard rocket and a team goal finished by ex-Albion loanee Craig Conway put them into a 2-1 lead at home to neighbours Preston.

But North End did exactly what they managed at the Amex, sending big Simon Makienok on as substitute and grabbing a late goal to force a 2-2 draw.

That haul of three points from nine does little for Blackburn in a survival fight which has seen Burton and Bristol City pick up big wins of late.

But the performances suggest the potential is there for them to achieve something very special tomorrow.

Bennett, a massive Albion favourite in the Withdean era and a short-lived loanee at the Amex two seasons ago, is eyeing an away win.

He said: “It was a massive disappointment not to beat Preston.

“The two results we had away from home were good but we were disappointed with the Norwich game, which should have been three points as well.

“It’s a massive sign that we are disappointed that we went to Norwich and Fulham, then played Preston, and got three points when I thought we completely dominated them.

“We are making strides in the right direction but we have got to turn those points into three.

“I should be saying we have got seven points from the last three games but we have got three.”

Rovers’ story last time out will be familiar to Albion fans. They went behind at home to Preston but played some great stuff to lead.

Bennett’s strike saw him shift the ball out of his feet towards his right, then unleash a drive almost on the half turn, not unlike a cracker he scored in a pre-season game against Aberdeen at Withdean.

The second goal was a super move, from goalkeeper Jason Steele and through the thirds until Bennett and Marvin Emnes combined to send Conway clear.

Although Makienok did not score on this occasion, he provided the lay-off from which Aiden McGeady levelled deep into added time.

Bennett said: “Conceding in the last minute was gut-wrenching.

“But, if we continue the performance levels we have been putting in under the gaffer, the points will come.

“We have got two tough away games coming up now (at Albion and then Reading on Tuesday).

“No one gave us a chance at Norwich and Fulham and we should have come away with four points.”

Blackburn are unbeaten in seven matches home and away and are looking solid under Mowbray.

But they have not won in their last nine trips away from Ewood Park.

Bennett as much as anyone knows the challenge Albion will pose under the guidance of his old Norwich boss and spearheaded by his former Albion team-mate Glenn Murray.

But we are entering the time of the year when teams around the relegation zone suddenly start pulling off unlikely results.

Bennett said: “Brighton have been fantastic. They do everything well and are having a fantastic season.

“They have really had to build that club up. It is credit to the owners and the people there that they are doing well.

“But there are no friends when you go down there.

“I’m looking to going down there and taking three points off them.

“They have got their own agenda but my agenda is to take three points.

“We went to Norwich and should have won the game. Whether they had ten men or not is irrelevant.

“Teams play against ten men and can’t break them down.

“To get our noses in front and to concede similar to how we did against Preston is disappointing. But we can’t think about that now.

“We have got to attack the last eight games and try and get some wins.”

If Bennett adds a goal to that effort look out for a special celebration.

He became father of twins in January and marked the occasion with a goal against Blackpool in the FA Cup.

“I stuck my thumbs in my mouth like I was sucking on a dummy,” he said of the subsequent celebration.

There was a repeat against Preston, followed by a point towards wife Kelly in the stand.

Albion fans will not begrudge Bennett and family a repeat of that scene. Just not today.
