Albion will meet the man who refereed one of their darkest hours as they potentially go for the title.

Oliver Langford from the West Midlands has been appointed to the Seagulls’ home game against Bristol City on Saturday.

Langford was last in charge of the Seagulls at Nottingham Forest when their promotion bid appeared to suffer a major double setback.

They went down 3-0 to the hosts and lost Shane Duffy to a broken bone in his foot.

Britt Assombalonga claimed the final touch to the opening goal, in an offside position, after Zach Clough fired a shot.

Assombalonga appeared to get his head to the ball and later insisted it was his goal although it has been given to Clough by most sources.

Langford correctly refused to watch a replay of the incident on the big screen at the City Ground as he consulted with an assistant before awarding the goal.

Albion were 2-0 down by the time Lewis Dunk was harshly penalised in added time, allowing Clough to hit the third from the penalty spot.

Langford also reffed the Seagulls’ 3-2 win at Blackburn, in which Gordon Greer was sent off.

His most recent assignment was the 0-0 draw between Wigan and Cardiff.
