Glenn Murray has revealed his determination to hang onto a “proud” relegation record with Albion in the Premier League next season.

The 22-goal hitman has never been demoted in a 13-year career with seven clubs in the top five divisions of English football.

He does not want the sequence to be halted with the Seagulls after helping Crystal Palace and Bournemouth to survive. Murray told The Argus: “Definitely not. That’s a record that I’m proud of, playing in the Premier League for two promoted clubs.

“I think the closest I went was with Brighton in League One. No relegations is something I would like to keep intact.”

Murray believes team-work will be key to Albion emulating Palace and Bournemouth by staying up after promotion.

He said: “We’ve got to realise we’ll be coming up against some of the best players in the world and they can change a game in the blink of an eye.

“Unfortunately, we probably haven’t got that quality in our squad yet, so I think we need to be a real team in the Premier League.”

Murray admits Albion’s promotion has been a strain as they head into tomorrow’s title-clinching clash against Bristol City at the Amex (5.30).

He said: “It’s not been entirely enjoyable. When you’re a team that’s tipped to be there, the pressure is constantly on.

“Even though we’ve kept on producing, we’ve felt that pressure throughout the season, which has probably spurred us on as well.

“But now it’s almost done. Obviously we’ve got the first target and, although it’s nice to rest a little bit, we’ve still got another job to do.”
