Glenn Murray believes Bristol City showed more hunger than their hosts in the Amex party which fell flat.
Cit secured Championship safety with a 1-0 win which leaves the Seagulls still three points from the title.
Murray believes the visitors’ greater need for at least point was key.
The striker, who helped Albion to the League One title six years ago, said: “Obviously they had something to fight for and probably showed a bit more hunger.
“We just weren’t at it. Like we weren’t at Norwich either. We’ve got one more chance at Villa.
“We’ll have to refocus this week and work hard and hopefully get something up at Villa.
“The boys shouldn’t need any rallying because what we get if we win is huge. We shouldn’t need any motivating.”
