George Ford believes teenager Marcus Smith has a big future ahead of him in rugby - after the Brighton College youngster ordered England stars around in a training session.

Smith is not part of the three-day England training camp taking place at the college but was allowed to join in a session as the Red Rose prepare for a clash with the Barbarians at Twickenham on May 28 before embarking on a June tour of Argentina.

England's Ford has given the aspiring fly-half tips before and he was impressed with the way the 18-year-old mixed in as head coach Eddie Jones allowed him a taste of elite level rugby.

Fly-half Ford joked: “I hope he doesn’t come through as well as he trained today because he has got some talent."

He added: “He’s a confident lad with the way he moves, the way he is with the ball, his distribution and his kicking game.

“I’ve met him a couple of times and done a bit of kicking with him. That’s the first time he has trained with us seniors today and he did not look out of place at all.

“For a young lad to come in as a fly-half and start bossing people around says a lot about him.

“I think he has got a big future ahead of him.”

Smith has been captained England Under-18s this season and joins Harlequins' Academy after completing his studies at Brighton College.
