Tomer Hemed wants to shine on the big stage for Albion – and get back into his nation’s good books.

The Israeli striker has been urged by his national team boss to make a name for himself in the Premier League.

Rewards will be an extension to the Seagulls’ growing band of fans in his homeland and an international recall in the Autumn.

Hemed was banned by his national team for critical comments and was absent from a training camp this week which involved his club-mate Beram Kayal.

But he said: “The manager said after the suspension everything will be okay and, if I’m good here in the Premier League, I’ll be back in the national team.

“It’s exciting. Israeli people will try to come here and watch games next season.

“Last season some came over and it was nice to see them in the stadium.

“After promotion, me and Beram had a lot of interviews. We’re national team players so we are already, if not famous, then well known. Now people really want to know about us and Brighton.”

Kayal, who was given a hero’s welcome back to his home town of Jadeidi, could feature in a friendly against Moldova and a World Cup qualifier against Albania, both at home, in the next fortnight.

Hemed remains out in the cold for those games but has patched things up with boss Elisha Levy.

He told The Argus: “After what happened, my relationship with the coach is already okay.

“We appreciate each other and we respect each other.

“After we won promotion he spoke to me and Beram and congratulated us.

“It was a good feeling to receive that from the manager of the national team.”

Hemed has set his international sights on the first games after his ban, against Spain and Italy, once the Premier League is under way.
