Shane Duffy had another hour of action for the Republic of Ireland tonight.

The Albion defender helped his nation beat Uruguay 3-1 in a friendly in Dublin.

He was one of only three survivors from Friday’s defeat to Mexico as he rebuilds his fitness after three months out with a foot injury.

But boss Martin O’Neill took him off after an hour.

The Irish are building towards a World Cup qualifier against Austria on Sunday which Duffy is eyeing with eager anticipation.

He tweeted: “Good win tonight against Uruguay, Bring on the big one next Sunday.”

O’Neill said: “I think the two games, this one tonight, and the game against Mexico will really have helped us for the Austria match.”

Uruguay’s attack did not include Luis Suarez while Edinson Cavani went off injured after just 11 minutes.
