ALBION could cash in on overseas friendlies – but only if and when they are established in the Premier League.

The Seagulls have turned down close to a million US dollars in fees as they remain close to home in pre-season.

They are convinced they have given Chris Hughton the schedule he wants after confirming their penultimate friendly.

Albion will go to Palamos, near Barcelona, on Tuesday, August 1 to play newly promoted top-flight Spanish side Girona.

They will kick-off pre-season with a training camp and low-key fixture in Austria and also visit Norwich, Southend and Crawley.

Pre-season concludes at home to Atletico Madrid, their No.1 targets for the high-profile date at the Amex.

Key figures at the club including chief executive Paul Barber believe the fees Albion could have earned playing outside Europe are a drop in the ocean compared to their potential annual earnings as a Premier League club.

Barber said: “We have been offered games in Asia and North America but Chris and I talked about it very early after promotion.

“We agreed – and we agreed with the chairman – that our priority this summer is to get our squad together for the Premier League, focus on those negotiations, minimise our travel and keep our feet on the ground.

“If we stay in the Premier League, those opportunities will come again.

“We don’t have to do them all in the first summer.

“We have to prepare ourselves in the best possible way and the best person to guide us on that is Chris.”

Albion target Markus Suttner has been handed a squad number by Ingolstadt for the new season.

But the Seagulls efforts to bring in the Austrian international remain ongoing.

Meanwhile Albion were last night confident Chelsea had not completed a loan deal for Tammy Abraham, despite reports that Swansea had secured the services of the England under-21 striker for next term.
