ALBION boss Chris Hughton expects to still be making signings after Manchester City head to the Amex – but he is not in a panic.

The Seagulls’ squad strengthening for their debut season in the Premier League is set to drag on well beyond City’s visit on August 12.

The transfer window remains open for nearly another three weeks after that and Hughton does not anticipate having all his new signings on board in the first few games.

He told The Argus: “I don’t think it’s a problem saying that. It’s teams in general.

“You have only got to look at the history of the transfer market and the amount of work that is done in the last month.

“You mustn’t panic. What is more important is that you get in what you want, not just filling numbers, and if it takes a bit longer you have got to accept that.”

Albion have so far signed German No.10 Pascal Gross and Australian international goalkeeper Maty Ryan, while last season’s No.1 David Stockdale has left for Birmingham.

They have also snapped up defender Josh Kerr from Celtic for the development squad.

Premier League regulations require clubs to name a 25-man squad shortly after the summer window shuts, which cannot be revised until January.

Hughton said: “These are the things that once you enter the Premier League go with it. You have to work around them.

“Fortunately for us, what we mustn’t come away from is that it’s all about making sure we bring in players to give us the best opportunity but we haven’t lost many players.

“The starting position at this moment is our end position last season, which was second in the league - and should have been first.

“So it’s a good starting position. What we mustn’t do is panic, because there will be opportunities for us.”

Young keeper Christian Walton was at Portsmouth for informal talks yesterday as his Albion colleagues reported back from the summer break for two days of testing before starting pre-season training on Monday.

The Argus revealed on Tuesday that Portsmouth, Wigan and Peterborough are all keen to borrow Walton.
